Who We Are
BCRS is a mentoring program for teen girls designed to promote positive self-esteem and self-worth through leadership and life skills training, workshops, group activities, seminars, social outings, group counseling, field trips, and topic discussions that promote character and moral development.
Our Name
Coal suppressed over time, through a heated and refined firing process creates a gem. The image of coal considered to be tainted, dark and dirty over a period of time illuminates a precious jewel. Additionally, the rose has been separated into three parts to represent the traditional stages from a girl, to a young lady, to a woman. The rose being a beautiful flower metaphorically represents the foundation of the Black Coal and Roses Society. The teachings are designed for the young ladies to represent themselves as the delicate rose.
